PAC begins report
On July 23, the Wiscasset Public Advisory Downtown Committee reviewed the notes for its meetings from November 2016 until this month. The review was to prepare for the panel’s final report to selectmen.
Jamie Sonia compiled the notes help from Susan Robson, who was not at Monday’s meeting. William Maloney and Sonia will write narratives based on the notes and members’ suggestions.
Several members suggested adding the results from a survey and a public meeting that showed strong support for trees on Main Street. Seaver Leslie requested including information about the benefits of having trees on Main Street. And he spoke with landscape architect Peter Wells, who was in the audience, about how to include trees without damaging the brick sidewalks. Wells said, of the choices offered, Japanese lilacs would be the best fit, but before planting, there has to be work underground, including adding structural soils and root guards to ensure the roots grow downward, rather than out.
The PAC will meet once more, at 5 p.m. Aug. 6, to finalize the narrative.
