Paul Blais, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully at home on Aug. 12, 2026, after a month's long illness.

Born on May 22, 1945, in the town of Dover, New Hampshire, Paul was the cherished son of Maurice Blais and Lena Grenier Blais, who have predeceased him, along with his brothers, Richard and Gerald Blais, and sister, Estelle Blais Lewis.

From a young age, Paul was driven by a passion for learning and exploration, always an independent thinker. He pursued higher education at the University of New Hampshire, where he graduated in 1970 with a degree in geology and political science. This foundation set the stage for a remarkable career that would see him become a pioneer in Maine's seafood industry.

In the 1970s, Paul relocated to Newcastle, Maine, where he began his professional journey as the manager of Maine's first aquaculture farm dedicated to mussels. His expertise and dedication positioned him at the forefront of the seafood industry, where he was involved in the harvesting of mussels, scallops, and sea urchins. He founded Roeboat, a successful business in Boothbay Harbor, which contributed significantly to the local economy and international markets, particularly in Japan. Later, as the office manager of Eastern Traders, a lobster company, Paul continued to share his knowledge and expertise, working diligently until his recent illness. Paul's family would like to thank Eastern Traders for their kindness and support of Paul, allowing him to continue working right up until his recent illness.

Paul's commitment to his community was evident in his service on the board of the Damariscotta YMCA during the 1980s, where he helped the organization grow and thrive. Beyond his professional and community contributions, Paul was a devoted family man. He married the love of his life, Patricia Hannigan, on May 14, 1977, and together they built a loving home in Newcastle, celebrating 49 wonderful years of marriage.

Paul is survived by his beloved wife Patricia; his proud son Devin J. Blais; daughter-in-law Kelsey Zhou Blais; his adored granddaughter Danica Z. Blais; sister, Paulette Blais Sirois, brother-in-law Richard Sirois; numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews, including Pamela, Stephanie, Maura, Andrew, Jason, and Adam, who also carry forward his legacy.

Paul's family fondly remembers his unwavering dedication to their well-being, always working hard to provide them with a bright future. His warmth, wisdom, and humor will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

In accordance with his wishes, a private funeral ceremony will be held. To honor his remarkable life, a Celebration of Life is planned for the spring of 2027, where friends and family can gather to share memories and celebrate Paul’s enduring legacy.
