Clara Wentworth, Conservation Committee chair of the Pemaquid Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, gave out seed packets to all members of the Pemaquid Chapter at the April 11 meeting. Clara is developing a program that encourages everyone that can to grow bee and butterfly friendly plants in their gardens this summer.

"A recent USDA report found that 40 percent of honey bee colonies died in the past year alone. We will lose more than honey. We will lose fruits and vegetables that depend on bees and lose small family farms and local businesses. This is not science fiction, it is real. It would be a silent spring without the buzzing of the bees," said Wentworth.

The next meeting of the Chapter will be the second Tuesday in May (May 9) at the Lincoln Home in Newcastle from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Anyone who is interested in local history, American history, education and patriotism are welcome to attend.
