Planning continues toward celebrating construction’s end
Planning is underway for a celebration around the end of October, to coincide with the end of construction, at least for this year, of the Wiscasset Downtown Project. Friends of Wiscasset Village members said Sept. 20, they hope by late October, most of the work on Main Street will be complete. Other projects, like the parking lot at the site of the Haggett Building, may not be completed until spring. It is unknown if benches and trash receptacles will be installed by winter, or whether the trees will be planted this fall or in the spring.
All plans for the celebration are tentative, until the town is consulted and gives permission, but BIRCH co-owner Brad Sevaldson said the proposed date is Oct. 27, with a possible rain date of Oct. 28. The event will likely be on the sidewalks near Treats. The event includes music, cider and baked goods, and a possible ribbon-cutting. Sevaldson said they hope to host children’s events and other activities.
As the summer season wraps up, the last Art Walk is Sept. 26. Lucia Droby said this will be the last chance to participate in the communal weaving project. After this, the final product will travel to several Wiscasset sites for display. A professional juggler will perform. She is hopeful the food vendor Taco the Town will have a one-day business license from the town.
Also shifting gears will be the Wiscasset Farmer’s Market, which celebrated its first season at the waterfront. Its last day outdoors is Sept. 26. The market may move indoors to the Morris Farm barn for the winter, until the last week before Christmas, although no final decision has been made.
Marketfest is Dec. 6, 7, and 8, and the Early Bird Sale is Nov. 9. At 6 p.m. Oct. 9, Lincoln County Regional Planning Commission will host an event with Lincoln County Historical Association to discuss plans for Maine’s bicentennial, according to Mary Ellen Barnes.
Friends of Wiscasset Village meets next at 8 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 10 at Sarah’s Cafe.
