Wiscasset Historic Preservation Commission on Oct. 3 approved an after the fact change to a certificate of appropriateness at 12 Fore St., where a new parking area was added after the owners learned the property lines on the deed were wrong.

The home, owned by Frank and Linda Harris family trust, was believed to have land 10 feet wider than the actual property line. So a site plan’s  parking area had to be moved several feet to accommodate the setback, according to the owners. Then they returned to the commission to amend the COA. According to Chair Susan Blagden, the preferred system would have had the Harris family come in before construction to get the amendment.

The commission also worked on possible changes to the town’s preservation ordinance, with the hope of having those changes approved at next June’s town meeting.
