A few congratulatory messages are in order.

Congratulations to Chris Higgins for receiving the Al Jellison Lifetime Achievement Award from the Maine Water Environment Association (MEWEA). It is a well-deserved honor for someone who has run the Boothbay Harbor Sewer District well for 28 years. I’ve known Chris for that long, having coached his daughter in basketball – and almost took her out of a game before the opening tip because I mistakenly hit her head with a clipboard and opened a cut (I will never forget that, Chris!). In this week’s article on the award, he praised the community. We should praise him for all of his hard work for nearly three decades.

Congratulations to Pauline Dion and the Sea and Science Center for their first successful summer season at their headquarters in East Boothbay. It seems like the location is a perfect fit for the community-based nonprofit which teaches young people about marine-related topics.

And a “well done” to the Boothbay Cornhole Classic committee – Tony Krason, Brenda Blackman, Sawyer Boulette and others – for another great event, raising $60,000 for Special Olympics Maine. The third annual event remained popular and takes a lot of behind the scenes work – and because of the weather this year’s event had to be rescheduled. Krason and Blackman have been involved with raising money for SOME since the early days of the Boothbay Charities Classic and we commend them for their dedication to this worthy cause.
