ROCKPORT — Car burglars targeted unlocked motor vehicles in Glen Cove and West Rockport Jan 2, in the afternoon, stealing purses, wallets and other valuables. Camden-Rockport Police Chief Randy Gagne warns the public to lock car doors and take valuables out of vehicles with them.

Gagne reported Jan. 3 that seven burglaries have been reported taking place Jan. 2.

“The perpetrators were targeting vehicle at local daycares,” he said. “It appears that a lone female operating a silver SUV was observed in the areas at Glen Cove and West Rockport at two daycare centers.”

Similar thefts have occurred in Damariscotta, Topsham, Brunswick, Saco and Sanford, he said.

Burglars are targeting vehicles parked at daycares and health clubs.

“We urge everyone to remove valuables and lock your vehicle,” he said. “It is believed that all these thefts are connected with other thefts reported along the coast.”
