RSU 12 school bus halts in Alna due to road conditions

Alna firefighters were diverting traffic from Head Tide Hill on November 26 while a car awaited pullout from the shoulder and a Regional School Unit 12 school bus waited for a town sand crew to treat the hill.
Superintendent Howard Tuttle confirmed it was a district bus and had not been in an accident, but that the driver did not proceed up the hill due to the need for sand. He did not know if any students were on board.
Up the hill from the bus, Danielle Austin of Dresden was waiting for AAA in a 2008 Chevy Cobalt.
Austin said she was going about five miles an hour down the snow-covered hill when the car started going back and forth. About three other cars in front of her also did some swerving but managed to continue on their way without incident.
Austin said she was not hurt. The car had no visible damage.
The car went partly off the road at about 7 a.m.
A sand crew was on the way, an Alna fire official on the hill said shortly before 7:30 a.m. Tuesday.
