Ruth Applin heads for 100
Wiscasset’s Ruth Applin turns 100 on Easter Sunday. Daughter Betty Applin said an open house is planned at Wiscasset Community Center for 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, April 15, so anyone who wants to can come in and wish her mother a happy birthday.
Ruth Applin moved to Wiscasset when she was 5 to live with her aunt and uncle, Harriet and John Jackson. They lived at 52 Churchill Street and she still does. She graduated from Wiscasset Academy in 1935. She married Robert Applin on Dec. 26, 1940, in the living room of the house she grew up in. She had five children, 11 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. She worked for the local telephone office in town and has been very active with the American Legion Auxiliary and the Wiscasset Alumni, never missing the alumni event in 82 years. She is a longtime member of the First Congregational Church and is hoping to attend on her birthday.
