Richard Jordan has completed his purchase of the Wiscasset Raceway. He signed the papers closing the deal on August 22, he said.

“It feels wonderful,” Jordan said in an interview on August 23. The best part is how supportive Wiscasset-area residents have been since he made the winning $130,000 bid on the track July 12, he said. The Bank of Maine had put it up for auction following a foreclosure.

The Kingfield businessman's plans will now turn to arranging a volunteer work day on an upcoming Sunday that he'll announce; scheduling the “first and only” race he will hold this year for some time in October; and working with a consultant on a plan to address the property's environmental issues.

The plan will then need the Maine Department of Environmental Protection's approval.
