Scam expert to speak at Schooner Cove’s Lunch and Learn
Learn how to identify and avoid scams at Schooner Cove’s Lunch and Learn on Monday, April 24 at noon.
The presentation, “Consumer Matters: Scams & More,” will be led by Martha Currier from the Office of the Maine Attorney General.
Currier will address common questions and answer others that guests may have. Participants will learn tactics that should automatically make them question an advertisement’s authenticity, how to avoid identity theft, and what to do if they ever become a victim. She will inform guests about why there are so many scams and how consumers are protected by the law when they make a purchase. The Attorney General’s Consumer Protection Division fields approximately 12,000 calls per year and can answer all of these questions.
Currier is the Complaint Examiner for the Consumer Information and Mediation Service in the Consumer Protection Division of the Office of the Attorney General and the administrator of Maine’s Lemon Law Arbitration Program. She is the host and producer of the Attorney General’s television show Consumer Matters on Time Warner’s public access station. Her current position builds upon a career of helping Mainers resolve their problems.
This event is free and open to the public. Guests are encouraged to RSVP as complimentary lunch will be served and space is limited.
