Scarecrow Fest Oct. 3 in Wiscasset
Wiscasset’s 8th annual Scarecrow Fest is Saturday, Oct. 3 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Wiscasset Community Center. A partnership between Wiscasset Parks and Recreation and the Wiscasset Area Chamber, this annual fall event offers fun for adults and children alike.
Festival highlights for children include a Halloween costume booth, face painting, and a Touch-a-Truck display. Attendees can also build their own scarecrows for $5 to leave on display or $10 to take home. Visitors are invited to browse the craft fair to shop a variety of products, pick up a pumpkin, or head to the snack bar for hot dogs and beverages.
Showcase your culinary talents at the Chili, Chowder, and Pumpkin Dessert Challenge for a chance to win cash prizes and more! Setup begins at 10:30 a.m. in the Senior Center. Registration is $15 per entry. Those not competing can join the fun as a taster from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. for just $5.
Crafters are invited to secure a tent or table at the event. The table fee is $15, and space is free for nonprofits. Sponsorship opportunities are also available, offering exposure through event publicity, official website placement, and logo-branded lawn placards.
Local businesses and nonprofits are also encouraged to participate in the month-long Scarecrow Contest. Participants can display an imaginative scarecrow at their place of business or at the municipal building for a chance to win the People’s Choice Award. Participation is free, but the deadline to sign up is Sept. 28, and all scarecrows must be displayed by Oct. 5 for judging. The winner of the $100 cash prize will be announced at Nightmare on Federal Street on Halloween night.
