Seacoast Community Orchestras prepare to tune up
An exciting new rehearsal season for the Seacoast Community Orchestras starts Tuesday, Sept. 24. The musicians will be directed by Ferdinand Liva of the DaPonte String Quartet.
String players of any age and level are encouraged to join these vibrant string ensembles, no auditions are required. Many members play in more than one group. Brass and woodwind players are encouraged to join for the symphonic pieces in the spring.
The Seacoast Orchestras include three ensembles, the Primo, which is open to players hoping to improve sight reading skills in an ensemble setting and have completed Book 1 of Suzuki (or equivalent), the Youth Orchestra, which has members of all ages and is suitable for students who have attained Suzuki Book 2 or 3 (or equivalent) and the Community Orchestra, for more advanced musicians who have mastered the material in Suzuki Book 4 or 5 level (or equivalent.)
Weekly rehearsals for the fall semester of the 2013/2014 Seacoast Orchestra season begin Tuesday, Sept. 24 with a free public concert at Lincoln Academy's Poe Theater in mid-December. The spring semester starts up mid-January culminating with a concert in May.
Rehearsals are held after school each Tuesday at the Great Salt Bay Community School Band Room: primo at 3 p.m.; youth at 3:45 p.m.; and community at 4:45 p.m. The school is located at 559 Main Street in Damariscotta.
Registration forms are available at the first rehearsal at Great Salt Bay Community School or at Salt Bay Trading Company on Route 1 in Newcastle. Dues are $65/year or $35/semester and scholarships are available upon request.
The Seacoast Orchestras are are supported by the the community, the players, and generous donors.
