“Seeing Ourselves: New Research on Why We Do What We Do” will be offered by Coastal Senior College (CSC) this fall, led by Joel Shapiro, retired professor of education and psychology. Registration is now open for this and the eleven other courses on the fall calendar.

The class will discuss current social and cultural environments, and how we shape, and are shaped by, the many forces and environments that surround us. The class will meet on Zoom, from 1:30 to 3 p.m. on Thursdays, from Sept. 17 through Oct. 29.

Shapiro retired as chair and full professor of education and psychology from Green Mountain College in Poultney, Vermont. He won a Fulbright Scholarship to teach at the University of Presov, Slovak Republic, and wrote a book for professors on how to integrate international students in American classrooms. Shapiro has written for American and European journals and lectured at universities and conferences. He holds a bachelor’s degree from Colgate University, a master’s from Temple University, and his doctorate from Nova Southeastern University.
