Selectmen plan for students to place flags on veterans’ graves May 24
Edgecomb students will learn a lesson in town history May 24 as they participate in placing flags on veterans’ graves. For the second consecutive year, selectmen will host Edgecomb Eddy students in the event. But this year's will have a couple new features, according to Selectman Ted Hugger.
The selectmen plan to serve hot dogs and invite a local historian to explain town history. Hugger explained selectmen’s plan during the May 7 board meeting.
In other action, selectmen made final preparations for the May 19 town meeting warrant. Article 19 requests voter authorization to appropriate $20,000 for municipal ambulance services. But residents won’t know which service to use until selectmen reach an agreement with either Wiscasset or Central Lincoln County ambulance services.
After the May 19 vote, selectmen will invite both ambulance services for an interview. Selectmen are considering previous bids from both services. CLC submitted a flat $20,000 fee. Wiscasset Ambulance Service requested a $6,500 fee for one year, and $7,000 for a second year. The Wiscasset proposal would also include all unpaid Edgecomb transport fees.
“We are going to invite both parties in and see where we want to go,” Hugger said.
Board Chairman Jack Sarmanian will contact Karl Olson & Associates about a Lallis property survey. The surveyor completed worked several months ago, but the town has not received the final product.
Selectmen meet next at 6 p.m. Monday, May 21 in the municipal building.
