From one of the world's most innovative theatre directors, Ivo van Hove (Network, NT Live: A View from the Bridge), this production asks why our fascination with celebrity, youth and identity never seems to get old. Also in June, “Small Island,” based on Andrea Levy’s Orange Prize winning novel, screens  June 27 at 7 p.m. A company of 40 actors embarks on a journey from Jamaica to Britain, through the Second World War to 1948. Hope and humanity meet stubborn reality as the play traces the tangled history of Jamaica and the United Kingdom.

In July, the Lincoln Theater will show an encore screening of “Hamlet,” NT Live’s biggest broadcast to date. The production, captured live in 2015, has been seen by over one million people around the world. Academy Award nominee Benedict Cumberbatch (BBC’s Sherlock, The Imitation Game, Frankenstein at the National Theatre), stars in the title role, July 11 at 7 p.m.. Also in July, an encore screening of “The Madness of King George the III” on July 18 at 7 p.m., tells the story of a King’s mind unravelling at a dramatic pace, ambitious politicians and the scheming Prince of Wales as he threatens to undermine the power of the Crown. And at the end of the month, join us for an encore screening of “The Audience” starring Academy Award winner Dame Helen Mirren (The Queen) on July 25 at 7 p.m. Mirren gives us a glimpse of the woman behind the crown and allows us to witness the moments that shaped a monarch.
