The Genealogy Group of Skidompha Library is hosting a fun new program, “Tales from the Kitchen,” which will be offered twice this month, once on Thursday, July 12, 5-6:30  p.m. and  Wednesday, July 25  12:30-2 p.m. Held in the comfortable, air-conditioned first floor Porter Meeting Hall, the program will be in a round-table format, allowing participation and encouragement by and for all attendees.

This is an opportunity to share discoveries and remember stories from your ancestors’ kitchens – recipes, tools, traditions, feasts!  Participants have many options for sharing during this round-table event: Bring a story. Bring a document, recipe, photo, or even a kitchen artifact to be identified.  Bring something sweet or savory made from a family recipe to share! This event is free to all.

Here are some story ideas:  Describe Grammie’s kitchen (or mom's or Aunt Ethel's or Grampa Sid's); Tell of a favorite memory centered on that kitchen; Did your family use butter or margarine?; Did you have a specific menu for special holidays?;  Did your house have a cookie jar?  What was in it? Can you describe it; What was the first meal you learned to make?  How did it turn out? Who taught you? Aprons or not? Wood, gas, electric stove?
