Sheepscot Valley Chorus welcomes new singers
Sheepscot Valley Chorus begins its 32nd season when rehearsals commence Tuesday, Sept. 11, 7 to 9 p.m. at the Wiscasset Congregational Church on Route 1. With a long history of community music making, the chorus welcomes and encourages new singers to join. Members range from novices to life-long singers, and director Linda Blanchard enjoys the challenge of blending such a diverse group. Practice CDs are provided to help those with less experience participate with confidence, and veteran accompanist Sean Fleming gives invaluable support at the piano.
The chorus will prepare music for its Christmas concert, featured annually as part of the Harbor Lights Festival in Boothbay Harbor. A major work on the program is the beautiful “Ave Maria” of Felix Mendelssohn, scored for eight part chorus and tenor soloist. Arrangements of traditional carols by David Willcocks and Robert Shaw’s “Many Moods of Christmas” are sure to touch a nostalgic note, while the contemporary “Ave Maria” by Franz Biebl and Daniel Forrester’s “Carol of Joy” lend lush harmonies and new imagery to the program. The concert is scheduled for December 2.
Singers wishing to participate may call director Linda Blanchard at 380-2768 or simply come to the first rehearsal, voice at the ready.
