Sheriff’s report
Sheriff Todd Brackett reports the following:
Deputy Matthew Day was dispatched November 12 to a report of criminal mischief to a mailbox in the Newcastle area. This appears to be the result of a motor vehicle accident, which was not reported. Further investigation to follow.
Deputy Chad Gilbert was dispatched November 13 to a report of a burglary from a motor vehicle in the Dresden area. The complainant stated that someone(s) had taken a Springfield XD compact 9mm handgun (value: $500), a Dewalt 18V Hammer drill driver, with extra battery (value: $400), case and drill bits (value: $100) from his vehicle. The items were accounted for on November 11 at approximately 2:30 p.m. and were discovered missing on November 13. Further investigation as leads develop.
Deputy Matthew Day was dispatched November 16 to a burglary/theft to a business in the Dresden area. Deputy Day was assisted at the scene by Det. Robert McFetridge. This case is currently under investigation.
Recent Accidents
On November 12, an accident occurred on Route 1 in Newcastle involving Gary D. Paul, 57, of Waldoboro. Paul was operating his 2007 Pontiac G6 northbound when a deer entered the roadway. Paul was unable to avoid striking the deer, causing front end damage to his vehicle. Deputy Justin Drake was the investigating officer.
On November 12, an accident occurred on Boothbay Road in Edgecomb involving Freda J. Reny, 68, of Boothbay. Reny was operating her 2013 Chevrolet Equinox southbound when she stated she fell asleep at the wheel. As a result, her vehicle left the roadway to the right, striking a culvert and apparently rolling over several times before coming to rest. Deputy Justin Drake was the investigating officer.
On November13, an accident occurred on Route 1 in Newcastle involving Barbara M. Wade, 71, of Damariscotta and Patricia Kempton, 67, of Bristol. Kempton was preparing to enter Route 1 southbound from the entrance ramp in her 1996 Ford Explorer and Wade was following in her 2003 Dodge Caravan. Kempton stopped for traffic on Route 1 and Wade struck the rear of her vehicle. Deputy Chad Gilbert was the investigating officer.
