Some Wiscasset incumbents plan to run again

Both Wiscasset selectmen whose terms are up in June said in phone interviews Feb. 22, they plan to seek re-election. Voters elected Terry Heller and Dusty Jones to their first terms in 2021. Nomination papers are set to be available starting March 2 for two two-year terms on the selectboard and other local seats up for election June 13, according to a town notice.

Heller noted she would have liked to be succeeded in her seat by any of the young professionals she asked. None had time due to their careers, so she decided she will run, she said.

School committee member Michelle Blagdon will not; Blagdon announced Feb. 21, she will not seek another term. According to Wiscasset Newspaper files, Blagdon has been on the committee since 2017. Her seat is the lone one up for election. The term is for three years, the town notice stated.

Other June elections are for six budget committee seats — two one-year terms, a two-year term and three three-year ones; and a water district trustee seat for two years and two for three years.

The notice stated candidates need at least 25 but not more than 100 registered voters’ signatures; the papers are due back at the town office by 5 p.m. April 18. Contact Town Clerk Linda Perry at 882-8200, ext. 4 with any questions.
