St. Patrick’s Day comes early in Wiscasset
Green was all around at the Wiscasset fire and ambulance station on Saturday night, March 7, on beaded necklaces, miniature hats as place-settings, garland and shamrocks on the door and cash in a donation jar.
The Wiscasset Ambulance Attendants Association put on its third annual St. Patrick’s Day Feast, a traditional boiled dinner that included meat donated by Fairservice Family Farm in Edgecomb.
“It’s a way to bring the community together as a whole,” the association’s vice president Kristin Draper said near the end of the evening.
Secretary Tanya Bailey agreed, saying Saturday’s event and others the association holds throughout the year are an opportunity for emergency medical services workers and residents to see one another when someone does not need an ambulance.
“People don’t need to just see us out on calls on emergencies,” Bailey said.
The dinner was a fundraiser for the association; the nonprofit helps support Wiscasset Ambulance Service on items not covered in the town budget and also gives to area causes, President Preston Dunning said.
People can join the association even if they are not on the ambulance service, he said. If interested, stop by the ambulance service at the municipal building or email Dunning at president@wiscassetambulance.org.
The association’s next event is an Easter-themed breakfast. It will be a joint effort with the Wiscasset Fire Department, benefiting both organizations, Bailey said. The breakfast is set for Saturday, April 4 at Wiscasset Community Center. The time will be announced.
