St. Philip’s bargain basement needs your help
The popular bargain basement thrift shop at St. Philip’s Church in Wiscasset is in a quandary. The chairlift that allows its patrons with mobility issues to access the basement is in need of replacement at a cost of over $700.
The struggling church, at this point, has no funds available to expend on the lift, especially given the large amount going to shore up its steeple. With metaphorical hat in hand, the church is reaching out to the greater community to ask for help with monetary donations toward the replacement of the chairlift.
The thrift shop has become a regular stop for those who love hidden treasures and bargains, but also has the more important mission of offering a place where those with little money to expend on household items and clothing are able to find decent goods for themselves and their family members at little cost. While the news cries out about an economic upturn, many in the local communities are not yet experiencing the benefits of it. St. Philip’s has always had a strong commitment of outreach especially for those in need, for those who need a hand up, not a handout. Now St. Philip’s is in the position of needing some help itself.
If any are willing to aid in the replacement of the chairlift, please send a check to St. Philip’s Church, 12 Hodge St., Wiscasset, ME 04578, noting "chairlift” on the memo line.
