St. Philip’s plans May 15 open house

Wed, 04/27/2022 - 10:45am

Have you ever wondered what goes on at 12 Hodge St. in Wiscasset? Sunday, May 15 from 2 to 4 p.m., come and find out!

St. Philips Episcopal Church will throw its doors wide open to the community in an open house and we want everyone to know that all are welcome!

St. Philips has called 12 Hodge St. home since 1856, when a small group of  Episcopalians were able to secure the building from the Baptist Society and it has been home ever since! A rich, wonderful history is embedded in the walls of the sanctuary, offices and Parish Hall! Youll get a look at it and hear the stories of the life of our congregation for 166 years as you tour our home.

Over the years, one of the hallmark activities that St. Philips has been known for are the chowder meals and the Strawberry Festivals. With the impact of the COVID restrictions over the last three years, these activities had to be curtailed. However, earlier this year a take-out style chowder meal was enjoyed by many. Come this summer, there are plans to resurrect an outdoor Strawberry’ delight!  Mark your calendars for June 25!

St. Philips has always had a mission minded ministry, which includes Help Yourself Shelf Food Pantry which distributes food baskets weekly. In addition to this outreach, volunteers staff the Bargain Basement with household items, clothing and other needed supplies. We currently work with our friends at First Congregational Church serving our elementary students with the Feed our Scholars Back Pack Meal Program as well as the Set for Success educational supplies.

Over the years, there have been many changes, additions, celebrations and challenges that the members of St. Philips have weathered with grace, determination and faith.  Their mission statement says it best: “We of St. Philips are a community that recognizes the importance of God  in our spiritual lives and in our Christian family. We are a small, growing and welcoming congregation that celebrates our diversity and cherishes the uniqueness of every member. We are committed to caring for our members and reaching out to the larger community offering Gods love to everyone.”

Come and enjoy our unique architecture and the stories of our outreach ministries and meet some of the members of St. Philips Episcopal Church! Well be waiting to welcome you!
