Historic Alna, in partnership with the Sheepscot Arts Preserve, will host The Outhouse Association at the Alna Meetinghouse, 1789 Alna Road, Alna, on Saturday, Oct. 3, from 4 to 6 p.m.

Hailing from Eagle Island in East Penobscot Bay, The Outhouse Association is the acoustic duo of Ian Ludders and Tony Scott, who play a salty, piney, infectious brand of hyper-local music — songs about farming, fishing, fixing engines, and digging for clams that you probably haven’t heard before and certainly won’t forget. Between songs, the duo pays tribute to the grit and humor of life in the great state of Maine, sharing stories and observations from the coast. They will also discuss Ludders’ new book, “The Log of the Herring Pumper BERYL,” a genre-bending work of local history that immerses readers in the scale-spattered herring season of 1955, mixing primary documents and oral history in a folkloric blend that harmonizes readily with the Outhouse Association’s wide-ranging repertoire.

Admission is free, though donations to support the maintenance, preservation, restoration, and use of Alna’s historic buildings will be gratefully accepted.
