‘Summer’s End’ art show at OPI

    East Boothbay’s Ocean Point Inn is the venue for a new art show, “Summer’s End,” spearheaded by the inn’s Marketing Director Patricia Royall.

    The outdoor opening reception Sept. 2 was held along the water’s edge looking over the bay. A wine tasting by Wicked Wines and a bevy of appetizers made by the inn’s staff offered that little something extra to the event. COVID-19 restrictions relating to masks and social distancing were observed.

    About 50-60 people went in masked groups of six to check out the show.

    “The event was wonderful, the inn and the staff went all out! Most of the artists attended,” said Royall. “Other regional artists who hadn’t heard about the show have said they are interested in future shows.”

    Twenty artists responded to the call for art issued in late August. The following have two works each displayed inside the Inn: assemblage artists André Benoit and Joan Mayfield; Helen Farnham, Carol Douglas, Kurt Kruger, Marjorie DeGarmo, Irene Plummer, Roger Milinowski, John M.T. Seitzer, Tony van Hasselt, Lynne Seitzer, Kat Logan, Diana Kerr, Corinne McIntyre, Fran Scannell, James T. Farnan; Monhegan artist Lee Winslow Court (1903-1992) and Carlton Plummer (1929-2020).

    Royall said events like this one shine a spotlight on the rich diversity of media these artists bring to the region. That diversity includes outdoor sculpture of stone and metal. In July, Sculpture Boothbay (formerly the Boothbay Harbor Region Sculpture Trail) moved three stone sculptures. Southport artist Bill Royall’s “Galaxy,” composed of Norum Bega granite, metal and mirror, was moved to Ocean Point Inn’s famed flower garden. Royall plans to add more sculptures to the Inn’s landscape.

     

    “This is a totally new endeavor for the Inn (as an art venue),” said Royall. “Next year we hope to have more art openings, an art and history speaker series, and several smaller events.”

    The “Summer’s End” show runs through Monday, Oct. 12. Ocean Point Inn is at 191 Shore Road by land or 43°49'08.1"N 69°36'14.5" by sea.
