Summerfest funds go to nonprofits
Almost $8,000 was raised on a sunny day in July during Summerfest on the Wiscasset common. And on a chilly, rainy day in October, the funds were distributed to representatives of 24 nonprofits during a special Mission Sunday service at First Congregational Church of Wiscasset. In keeping with the theme of the day, Rev. Josh Fitterling’s sermon focused on love of community. As checks were presented to representatives of the organizations, recipients gave short mission statements describing the wide variety of community services provided.
In 1905, Summerfest began as a fair put on by the women of First Congregational Church of Wiscasset, and more than 35 years ago it became a church-wide event. Each year funds from the fair are distributed to local nonprofit agencies.
The next fair is scheduled for July 25, 2020, the fourth Saturday of July.
