Tapestry Singers preparing for holiday concerts
The Tapestry Singers have started rehearsing for this year’s holiday concerts that will take place on Saturday, Dec. 21, and Sunday, Dec. 22.
The featured work will be the Magnificat by J.S. Bach, accompanied by a full baroque orchestra. The second half of the program will be a series of shorter pieces including several audience sing-alongs.
The group is made up of singers who are also carpenters, artists, writers, human resources managers, computer experts, booksellers, haulers, blacksmiths, water desalination experts, doctors and teachers.
Among the latter is Sue Hunt, last year’s Tapestry Scholarship recipient. Sue is in the process of becoming certified to teach music in the state of Maine. In the meantime, she is doing what so many musicians do, a collage of different activities including giving private vocal lessons. She dreams of forming an auditioned children’s choir and securing a music teaching position in a school.
The Tapestry Singers have been performing in the Damariscotta-Newcastle area for 25 years. The ensemble is directed by Harold “Sandy” Falconer and accompanied by Sean Fleming.
