Thank you and good morning

Wed, 01/20/2021 - 8:45am

Thank you to readers who have responded to our invitation to email pix@wiscassetnewspaper.com with their new, winter photos, scenic or people ones, for us to consider publishing in print, online, or both. Keep them coming, for they are wonderful, and wonderfully local, showing how and where you are finding fun, exercise and nature’s beauty this pandemic-struck Midcoast winter.

Thank you to everyone who wears their face masks and especially those who wear them over, not below, the nose. And thank you to our responders, town offices and businesses who continue to follow COVID-19 protocol.

When the pandemic, quarantining, mask-buying and mask-making, virtual meetings and more began about 10 months ago, it took a little while to sink in that this was a marathon, and a moment in history. But burning out from it now, when there are vaccines and we know more about spread and how to prevent it, would be giving in. Let us be stronger than the virus: Let’s outlast it.

Speaking of the coronavirus, much of the news portion of our daily, free Morning Catch email these days is the latest on cases in Lincoln County and elsewhere, and the other virus news that, regularly, is still some of the most read news on wiscassetnewspaper.com, boothbayregister.com and penbaypilot.com. COVID-19 stories tend to make each website’s continuously updated top 10 list. Look for the gray box titled “Most Popular.”

Another gray box, titled “Subscribe to our mailing list,” can get you signed up for Morning Catch, plus our Breaking News and Weekend Preview emails, all free. And you can always like our Facebook pages, where we put links to stories on our sites.

Morning Catch comes out around 9, seven days a week.

Week’s positive parting thought: The meeting tentatively planned for Jan. 26 between Wiscasset’s selectmen and school committee on a number of topics is good for both and good for families and other taxpayers. The more two government panels talk, the better and more easily they can work together.
