Three officers graduate
It's not every graduation ceremony that ends with videos of the recently graduated getting pepper-sprayed.
But most graduations aren't held at Two Bridges Regional Jail.
The jail held its graduation on Friday, April 17 with three graduates moving up the ranks.
Captain James Bailey presided over the graduation of new corrections officers Spencer Alden, Brittney Alexander and Kaitlin Silva.
Bailey said the past four weeks of training, which included being pepper-sprayed and donning riot gear for high-stress situations, will prepare the graduates for their futures.
“What they have gone through is so important,” he said. “Everything they've gone through they can use every day for the rest of their careers.”
Bailey said corrections officers are sometimes overlooked, but that the job is especially important.
“The reality is, we get a lot of these (inmates) right off the streets, and we're the ones who have to deal with them,” he said. “It's a long road and a challenging job, but I have no doubt (the graduates) will do a good job.”
The graduating class of Silva, Alexander and Alden finished with a 93 test average.
Following their swearing in, a video was shown of the three graduates' training, including being pepper-sprayed and having to go through a gauntlet of sorts.
