Three things
The Boothbay Register/Wiscasset Newspaper staff hopes for a good turnout at their Business After Hours gathering on Wednesday, Aug. 6, 5 to 7 p.m., at Boothbay Railway Village Museum’s Town Hall. We will have some exciting news to share regarding our major digitization project, which is underway thanks to the volunteers at Boothbay Region Historical Society. We also hope to gather some additional volunteers to help scan the issues of the newspaper at the Maine State Library in Augusta. Merritt Blakeslee has been instrumental in moving this project forward and we thank him for his service. Come enjoy the food and camaraderie and learn how you can help either through volunteering or financially. If you can’t make it, we will be announcing the details of the project in upcoming issues.

The Major League baseball season has started its second half and it has been pretty competitive in the six divisions. The Detroit Tigers have a comfortable lead in the American League Central but the other divisions are still up for grabs. Will the Red Sox or Yankees catch the Blue Jays? Will the Padres ever get it together to dethrone the Dodgers? Will the Phillies and Mets battle go down to the final week of the season? It’s been fun to watch. It will be interesting to see if the Red Sox pull off a trade as the deadline nears. With a load of outfielders, it seems almost certain.

Another summer month is coming to an end. Will there be hot August nights? It remains to be seen. The end of this week looks to be hot and humid. The nighttime/overnight rain is welcome and hopefully we can enjoy full weekends of nice weather in August. The multiple weeks of it being rainy on Saturday in June and July was miserable. The gardens and grass have loved it, however.
