Monday, Sept. 14, from 3 to 5 p.m., Veggies to Table welcomes community members to the farm for Spiral Hand-Tied Bouquet Making, a floral design class celebrating the beauty and abundance of the nonprofit’s flower fields.

Led by Diane Farmer, owner of Bloom Line Flowers in Oakton, Virginia, the workshop offers an opportunity to learn from a formally trained wedding and event floral designer. Splitting her time between Virginia and Round Pond, Maine, Farmer specializes in garden-inspired arrangements and also works alongside a local floral designer in Maine. She brings years of experience and ongoing Master-level training to the farm.

Using flowers grown at Veggies to Table, Farmer will teach participants the technique for creating a spiral hand-tied bouquet that can stand on its own, too! She’ll guide participants through stem preparation, placement, color, proportion, foliage, and movement. Each participant will leave with their own bouquet and techniques for creating their own arrangements.

“Our flowers are such a joyful and important part of what we grow at Veggies to Table, and this workshop is a wonderful opportunity to experience them in a new way,” said Erica Berman, executive director of Veggies to Table. “We’re thrilled to welcome Diane to the farm and give participants the chance to learn from her expertise using flowers grown right here in our fields.”

Education is a core pillar of Veggies to Table’s work. The workshop is part of its newly expanded educational programming, connecting community members with the farm and its mission through hands-on learning. Fall offerings also include dahlia dividing and companion planting workshops, sensory farm tours, and more.
