While the First Congregation Church of Wiscasset, UCC, and St. Philip’s Episcopal Church are closed to the public until further notice, Rev. Josh Fitterling and Rev. Marcia Richardson will celebrate Holy Week via email and Facebook
On April 5, Palm Sunday, Rev. Fitterling will conduct a worship service beginning at 10 a.m. which may be viewed on Facebook or via email (firstname.lastname@example.org).
Also, on Palm Sunday from noon to 3 p.m., the public is invited to pick up a palm and say a prayer on the First Congregational church steps while honoring social distancing.
Rev. Richardson and Rev. Fitterling will participate in a virtual Maundy Thursday service at 7 p.m. which will be shared via email and Facebook. Holy Communion will be celebrated and those at home are invited to partake of bread and wine or juice of their choice.
On Good Friday, the public is invited to a time of quiet contemplation at home from noon to 3 p.m. marking the hours of darkness while Jesus was on the cross. At 3 p.m. via Facebook or email, a reading of the last seven words of Jesus will be shared remembering the moment Jesus breathed his last breath.
A virtual sunrise service will take place at 6 a.m. on Easter Sunday, April 12. The public is invited to share the sunrise remotely during the service led by Rev. Fitterling and Rev. Richardson.
The sanctuary Easter Sunday service will be celebrated at 10 a.m. with Rev. Fitterling. The public is invited to remotely celebrate Easter as it is broadcast live or at any time via email or Facebook.
When asked about future services, Rev. Josh said, “When it is possible to resume gathering and worshiping as normal, there will be another celebration of the joys of resurrection as the congregation comes back together in person to worship. Stay tuned for more details.”
