Vote for Davis and Dunning

Mon, 05/29/2023 - 3:15pm

    Dear Editor:

Ten years ago, Bill and I purchased our home in Wiscasset after doing extensive due diligence. We wanted to find a home in a year-round community. We visited the Midcoast region many times. We found a small town like the ones where we were raised. We loved the history and the preservation of a way of life that is often overlooked. This was a decision that we took seriously; it was not an accidental decision. If we had wanted bread and circuses we would have settled into a different community.

I attended the candidates’ forum and came away dismayed and disappointed. We live in a town with skewed demographics, some are struggling financially, and Terry Heller proposed her ‘wish list’ including an amphitheater on the river for the town. Similar venues in surrounding towns struggle. Any positions created would be seasonal and part-time. This is not economic development, it’s entertainment for a few at the expense of everyone - like Schoonerfest. I heard other proposals that seemed unnecessary as well. This is turning our ‘backyard’ into someone else’s playground. We cannot turn this delightful town into Six Flags Over Wiscasset.

Heller stated that she ran two years ago only because another candidate wanted to close the high school. This is an outright lie, and she knows that. There was absolutely no plan to close the school.

Candidates Don Davis and Pamela Dunning presented solid, financially stable platforms. They are honest and truthful people. Each has the solid business experience that is needed. They can read and understand a financial worksheet. They understand the demographics of this town and want to see it grow in the best way possible for all citizens, not just a few. Don and Pam are both long-term residents of Wiscasset. They are the ones who will foster the true growth and development that we desperately need.

I strongly encourage all voters to go to the polls on Tuesday, June 13 and vote for Davis and Dunning. We are at a crossroads and our future depends on your vote. Thank you.

    Lynn Maloney
