W. Ross Huber, 78, of Wiscasset, Maine died March 16, 2013 after living life to its fullest. He was born in Thomaston, the son of Elinor (Cain) Huber and Paul Huber. He attended school in Wiscasset and graduated from Wiscasset Academy with the class of 1952, before joining the U.S. Air Force.

Ross was a jack of all trades and a master of many, fixing and building came naturally to him. His work included sales management, auto repair and cross country truck driver. He also owned and operated three separate small businesses: a custom camper manufacturing plant; a sports car repair shop in sunny Southern California; and even a small restaurant where he was a short order cook. He worked very hard at whatever project he put his attention on.

Ross had restless feet and spent many of his early adult years moving about in search of his next adventure. His children inherited his gypsy gene and have all been known to take an occasional unexpected road trip. Home for Ross included Maine, Illinois, Indiana, Idaho, California, Virginia and Massachusetts. He was known for throwing great parties, actual occasions were optional.

He raced cars in the California road rally circuit and therefore believed the rest of the population could not drive properly. Ross chased women and caught three. He was known to have a quick wit and enjoyed the verbal banter.

Ross firmly believed that most of the problems with America's youth could be solved by merely threatening to knock all of their heads together and he never passed up an opportunity to test his theory. Evidently he liked his eyebrows very bushy.

He was an animal lover, with a particular affection for dogs and cats. He had a soft spot for strays, animal and human alike. He once brought home a rescued squirrel to the dismay of his wife, but to the delight of his children. He loved blacksmithing, tools, books and boats and once owned a 70-foot tugboat just for the fun of it.

Except for the past few years of his life, Ross lived his life to the fullest, always pursuing what he wanted, doing as he chose most of the time while in search of his dreams. As he had wished, his ashes will be spread along the Sheepscot River that he loved so much. He will be dearly missed.

Ross was predeceased by his mother Elinor, father Paul, and brother Gordon Huber, all of Wiscasset.

Surviving are his sister Francis Harris of Raleigh North Carolina, brother Paul Huber of Jefferson, daughter Kim Gillespie and husband Lee, son Chip Huber, son Scott Huber and wife Tammy and seven grandchildren.

The family would like to thank The Gosslin Hospice Home in Scarborough for the wonderful and kind care given to Ross in this difficult time.
