Weather we like it or not
Kudos to Lincoln County Emergency Management Agency for helping keep locals informed in the past week with several posts about the winter-like weather that has been hitting the Midcoast and how to stay safe in it.
One Lincoln County EMA Facebook post tapped a National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) flyer recommending the one to two layers to wear when it's chilly out, the two to three layers plus a hat and gloves when it's cold, and all of that plus at least one more layer and a mask when it is extremely cold (as it was Tuesday morning, for example!).
Lincoln County EMA then shared the National Institute on Aging's tips for exercising safely in the cold, including being prepared by having a fully charged phone, knowing the signs of hypothermia, and telling others where you're going.
Other posts gave forecast updates. One also advised, given a winter storm watch that had been issued for Lincoln County and nearby, "If you have to travel, leave earlier than you normally would, give plenty of space between you and the vehicle ahead of you, and have patience. Ice and Snow, Take it Slow."
As winter nears, and throughout it, we can't hear or read all these forms of messages and tips enough, because, as Mainers, we want to do, and to keep doing. And it doesn't hurt to remind us to do it all safely.
Week's unrelated, positive parting thought: Time to clinch the AFC East, Patriots!
