This week at the Harbor Theater
"Spider-Man: Brand New Day" - (PG13; 2 hours, 25 minutes) - FINAL SHOWS. With the world no longer remembering who Peter Parker is, Spider-Man finds himself more isolated than ever. As his closest friends move on with lives that no longer include him, Peter throws himself into protecting New York—until a mysterious new threat emerges that challenges everything he thought he knew about being a hero.
Facing an enemy unlike any before—one who can strike without ever being seen—Peter must confront not only an invisible villain, but the personal sacrifices that come with living a life no one else can remember. As the stakes rise, he discovers that the very transformation he fears may be the city's only hope. Spider-Man: A Brand New Day launches an exciting new chapter for Marvel's iconic web-slinger, blending thrilling action, heartfelt emotion, and the enduring reminder that even when the world forgets who you are, true heroes never stop fighting for the people they love. Wednesday, Aug. 19, 2 p.m. (OCAP) and Thursday, Aug. 20, 7 p.m.
“Comic book life lessons have rarely been as affecting as this.” – Martin Robinson, London Evening Standard
"76 Days Adrift" - (Documentary; 1 hour, 48 minutes) - TWO SHOWS ONLY. Steven Callahan gives a gripping first-hand account of his NYT bestselling novel "Adrift: 76 Days Lost At Sea." On the eve of Feb. 4, 1982, in the middle of the night there was a loud boom as a whale collided with Steven’s boat. Within minutes, his small craft was flooded with a rush of water. He grabbed what he could, heaved his life raft into the ocean, and snatched his emergency kit. Without food or water, for an incredible 76 days the inflatable raft was his home as he drifted across the entire Atlantic Ocean. Forced to come to terms with his own shortcomings and limitations, Steven finds a strength he never knew he had. This official documentary, executive produced by Callahan, brings the story to life with found 8MM footage, original stills of the time of the voyage, and first-person recreation. Still possessing many of the original artifacts, he takes us step-by-step through his harrowing and life-altering adventure. Wednesday, Aug. 19, 7 p.m. and Thursday, Aug. 20, 2 p.m.
“From the comfort of a movie seat, one can ponder whether you would have the will to continue day by day. This is a journey worth making. The film is a gem of a ripping tale and a great example of human persistence in extreme circumstances.” – Bradley Gibson, Film Threat
"The Invite" - (R; 1 hour, 47 minutes) - Joe and Angela’s marriage is hanging by a thread when they invite their intriguing upstairs neighbors over for dinner. What begins as an awkward evening of small talk quickly takes an unexpected turn, forcing both couples to confront uncomfortable truths about love, intimacy, jealousy, and the compromises that come with long-term relationships. Directed by Olivia Wilde and starring Seth Rogen, Wilde, Penélope Cruz, and Edward Norton, The Invite is a sharp, sophisticated adult comedy about marriage, desire, and what happens when one seemingly innocent dinner party pushes everyone far outside their comfort zones. Funny, candid, and refreshingly unpredictable, it’s a witty look at modern relationships and the temptation to wonder whether someone else has figured it all out. Showdates/times: Friday, Aug. 21, 7 p.m.; Saturday, Aug. 22, 7 p.m.; Sunday, Aug. 23, 2 p.m.; Monday, Aug. 24, 7 p.m.; Tuesday, Aug. 25, 7 p.m.; Wednesday, Aug. 26, 2 p.m. (OCAP) and Thursday, Aug. 27, 2 p.m. (note special time!)
“The Invite feels like a throwback to the grown up films of the ’70s and early ’80s. What an absolute pleasure. Grownups are back, baby!” – Max Weiss, Baltimore Magazine
