Peggy S. Averill
Peggy Sue (Cromwell) Averill, born April 28, 1963, passed away unexpectedly Aug. 11, 2026 while doing what she loved, where she loved, with the man she loved.
Peg, daughter of Frank and Phoebe (Greenleaf) Cromwell, was an "Island Girl" who cherished her amazing childhood on Westport Island; growing up with her sister Elaine, two brothers, Timothy and Larry, and countless cousins, with priceless memories she held close to her heart.
Peg attended Wiscasset Schools where she met her high school sweetheart, and love of her life, Wayne Averill. After attending college in Florida to become a travel agent Peg and Wayne built their home in Alna, and married Oct. 6, 1984. In 1987 they welcomed their daughter Audrey and in 1990 son Sumner. She was a proud stay-at-home Mom, who truly did it all, while making it look effortless! Tuesdays were reserved for time with her Mom, a visit to Westport in the morning for donuts and cards with her sister, a day of shopping, and bowling league on Tuesday nights. In early 2000 Peg took on the role of school secretary at the Wiscasset Middle School, a job she loved; she was a trusted adult to kids and friend to staff. Around 2005 she left school to help Wayne with the office work at Ames Supply. She was a familiar and friendly face to customers, someone sales reps looked forward to seeing, and a beloved friend to many employees, her "Ames Supply Family."
Then in 2014 Peg became "Nonae", a glowing grandmother to her first granddaughter, Llireva. Her Nonae role continued to grow in 2015 with the birth of her second granddaughter, Lianna, and in 2017 with the birth of her grandson, Myrick. "Nonae" was by far her favorite role, and one she filled to perfection. "Nonae Days" were filled with special lunches, fun outings, secret craft projects, and most of all a lot of love.
Peg enjoyed any time spent with her family and friends. Dinner dates and travel plans with Wayne were always on the calendar. She always had a cruise booked, and was shopping for her next trip. Weekends spent on "The Mountain" with family were some of her favorite days, playing cards, cooking for the camp full of people, and watching the priceless sunsets. She also enjoyed her time on China Lake, going for boat rides, fishing, and working on remodeling the camp.
Peg touched the lives of so many, making everyone she met feel important. Peg was part of a local sorority, donated blood to The Red Cross, and performed countless acts of random kindness for friends and strangers. She was a giver, a generous, and humble woman who always wanted to help, and make everyone feel special.
Peggy is survived by her husband, Wayne Averill; daughter, Audrey (Averill) Blagdon and her husband Josh; son, Sumner Averill,; grandchildren, Llireva, Lianna, and Myrick; sister, Elaine Nichols and her husband Todd; brother, Timothy Cromwell, and his wife Sue; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
In memory of Peg, make time to take your spouse out to dinner, go on a picnic hike with your kids, spend the day crafting with your grandchildren, play a game of cards with family, or go do something special for someone, just because it feels good.
A Celebration of Peg's life will be held on Sunday, Aug. 30 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at The Westport Island Town Hall on Westport Island. Condolences can be made online at WWW.DaigleFuneralHome.com.
