Westport Island’s shed bid deadline changes
On Monday evening, April 10, Westport Island selectmen changed the deadline for site work bidding for the sand and salt shed.
A deadline of Monday, April 17 was set at last week’s meeting, but Selectman George Richardson Jr. explained Monday, the date needed to be changed due to information from the project’s designers.
Requests for bids were issued by Pine Tree Engineering giving a final acceptance date of Wednesday, April 19. The date was set by the engineering company to accommodate any delays caused by the Easter weekend. Project bids are due at 2 p.m. at the town office. Notification of the successful bidder is expected within one week. Those interested in vying should contact Jonathan DeWick at 443-1508 or by email: pte@pte-maine.com .
Selectmen also reviewed the chance to attend a Maine Department of Transportation, Work Zone Traffic Control workshop, that, according to the brochure, covers topics including labor standards compliance, legal liability for towns and positioning of materials and personnel at work sites. Cost per person is $40. Selectmen agreed to provide the information to Road Commissioner Garry Cromwell.
The board briefly discussed the hourly rate increase for election workers; the increase was approved March 27. At that time, Gaye Wagner, town clerk and registrar of voters, had informed the selectmen the amount would need to be increased from $7.50 to $9, per state law. Richardson said the current budget would be sufficient to cover this year’s increase.
