Wiscasset Art Walk on, despite threat of rain

Tonight’s, Thursday, June 28 Wiscasset Art Walk will be WAW’s first of the season and could be its first rainy one. As rain pelted this part of the Midcoast mid-Thursday morning, event co-organizer Lucia Droby responded to a Wiscasset Newspaper email by saying in five years, the Walk has never had bad weather. So this is new, she said. But the Walk will go on, with music moved inside, she said in that response and in a separate email that followed to participants, telling them the night’s Walk is a go.

“We’ve been blessed with five years of terrific weather, but rain was inevitable sooner or later,” Droby wrote participants. The email goes on to work with participants on plans for where parts of the event may move depending on weather. And it notes, two food trucks are uncertain to come, since they would be traveling from Portland and might not if it is storming, Droby explains.

The email to participants notes another of the WAW’s organizers, Violet Brandwein, will be putting up the streamers. Droby writes,“Our stage  is set and let’s put on our show! All spirits up!”

The National Weather Service at weather.gov was predicting today’s rain in Wiscasset would give way to showers and a continued threat of a thunderstorm through midnight.

WAW runs from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. around Wiscasset Village tonight and July 26, Aug. 30 and Sept. 27.
