    Vicki Decker of Lyman has been hired as Wiscasset Middle High School’s new assistant principal and athletic director.

    Superintendent of Schools Terry Wood introduced Decker to the school committee Tuesday evening. The panel voted 4-0 for the hire. Board member Indriani Demers was not present.

    Decker has worked the past 22 years in Regional School Unit (RSU) 57 where she served the past four as the middle and high school technology integrator. She has also taught mathematics and coached several varsity sports at Massabesic High School including, softball and basketball. RSU 57 includes Waterboro, Alfred, Limerick, Newfield, Shapleigh and Lyman.

    Decker holds a master of education degree in instructional technology and a bachelor of science degree in math education. She plans to commute to WMHS from home.

    Facilities director John Merry said the energy conservation project is about 70 percent complete. Close to 2,000 new LED lights have been installed in the elementary and high schools. One of the major improvements is the installation of occupancy sensors that can reduce or shut off lights when rooms aren’t occupied.

    Similar sensors are planned for the heating ventilators. “The unit ventilators will not run unless the room temperature hits the low set-point, or unless the room is occupied,” said Merry.

    Several months ago, the committee voted to apply to the project $167,516 it received in additional state funding. The $1.55 million project is financed through a bank over 15 years as a lease purchase agreement, according to the superintendent’s office.

    Resignations noted Tuesday included Shelley Schmal as finance manager effective Dec. 1; Daniela Marino, elementary school physical education teacher; Jason Hinman, elementary school educational technician III
 and Peg Armstrong, high school principal.

    New hires include John Wise, special education instructor in the Anchor program; Joel Grindle, elementary school physical education teacher; Jeffrey Cardoza, elementary school guidance counselor; Charles Bassett, middle school cross country coach;
 Celia Philbrick, middle school girls’ soccer coach and
 Janelle Skillin, elementary school secretary

    The committee will seek bids on a 2004 Chevrolet pickup truck, utility trailer and a Hot Point kitchen range.

    Wood noted the department will hold workshop in-service days for staff Aug. 29 and 30.
