Wiscasset Public Library hosts Business After Hours
The Wiscasset Area Chamber of Commerce is excited to announce the start of its autumn Business After Hours.
Business After Hours events are a great opportunity to network with other business professionals and leaders in the Wiscasset Area.
The first Business After Hours will be hosted by the Wiscasset Public Library, Thursday, Oct. 3 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Please join us for great conversations and appetizing refreshments.
Not only are Business After Hours great events to network at, they offer unique opportunities to learn more about local businesses like the Wiscasset Public Library! With 214 years of service, Wiscasset Public Library is one of the two oldest continuous circulation libraries in the country. The Wiscasset Public Library began in 1799 as the Wiscasset Social Library. It was incorporated in 1920 by a group of 10 Incorporators.
Wiscasset Public Library is situated in a beautiful structure on historic High Street, Wiscasset. The building was completed in 1805, built for the Lincoln and Kennebec Bank of Massachusetts. In the Northwest corner of the basement was a “Jug Vault,” a brick structure said to have resembled a large bean pot, the top of which was entered through a trap door in the floor of the room above.
In it was kept the required reserves of $100,000 in specie. Although the jug vault is gone, the building still retains much of its original architectural features. In 1929 the building was purchased by a committee of generous donors for use by the library.
The Wiscasset Public Library is located at 21 High Street in Wiscasset.
