Considering the office you are running for, what do you feel are the three most pressing issues (350 words or less): In a small community like Wiscasset, the challenges facing our schools are closely connected, and they require thoughtful and balanced decision-making. One of the most pressing issues is enrollment and how we sustain strong educational opportunities for students. As enrollment shifts, we need to be intentional about preserving the programs and opportunities that make our schools well-rounded and engaging. Every student deserves access to a high-quality education that includes strong academics, extracurriculars, and pathways that prepare them for careers, college, or the trades. When we support and retain excellent teachers and staff, we have the foundation for a positive and consistent school environment where students can thrive.
Fiscal responsibility and transparency are critical to maintaining trust and ensuring the long-term success of Wiscasset schools. Every dollar should be used with care and purpose, prioritizing students, educators, and programming. A clear and transparent budget process helps the community understand not just what decisions are made, but why they are made. That kind of openness builds trust and leads to better, more sustainable outcomes for both students and taxpayers.
Finally, strong schools depend on strong community trust and communication. When families, staff, and community members feel informed and included, students benefit. Open communication helps reduce misunderstandings, strengthens relationships, and creates a more positive environment for everyone involved. Even small improvements in how we share information and listen to one another can make a meaningful difference in how our schools function and feel.
Any other thoughts on why you are running or what you can bring to the office (150 words or less): As a parent with young children, I bring a firsthand understanding of what families experience in our schools every day. That perspective helps me focus on how decisions affect how students learn, how they are supported, and where we can better ensure every child has access to a strong, well-rounded education.
I am also deeply committed to being present and engaged in our school community. Through volunteering and participating in school activities, I have seen how powerful it is when families, teachers, staff, and community members work together. Showing up builds relationships, strengthens trust, and creates a more positive school environment for everyone. If elected, I will bring that same approach to the school committee—being accessible, listening carefully, and helping ensure families feel heard, valued, and included in the decisions that shape our schools.
