Showcasing of students’ and teachers’ work took up most of the May 25 Wiscasset School Committee meeting.

It all drew applause, beginning with the presentation on an extensive third grade project that had students working with simple machines; taking a field trip to Topsham to visit Crooker Construction where teacher Diane Sturgeon’s husband Tom Sturgeon is president/CEO/owner; and then narrating a video on their learning.

Diane Sturgeon is retiring. At a reception before the meeting in the Wiscasset Middle High School library, she received a personalized blanket. Sturgeon, of Bowdoinham, has taught her entire, three-decade career in Wiscasset. The Sturgeons have a new business, Sturgeon Holdings, LLC. Diane Sturgeon said in an interview, she also will have more time to spend with her six grandchildren. She said she feels good about retiring this year, “because I’m leaving while I still love it.”
