Wiscasset schools’ music and art departments presented the annual Spring Gallery of the Arts on May 9 and 15. The evening of May 9 featured an informal art walk-through and a concert featuring all of the Wiscasset band ensembles. The concert was the debut concert for the fourth and fifth grade beginning band students. The concert also featured the Middle School, High School Jazz and High School bands. Some of the highlights included “Imperium” and “Gospel John” by the Middle School Band; “Blue Bossa” and “Comin’ Home Baby” by the High School Jazz Band; and “Highlights from Harry Potter” and “Out of the Doghouse” by the High School Band. The concert concluded with two pieces played by the combined middle and high school ensembles. During the concert, the Patrick S. Gilmore Band Award went to John Hodson, the John Philip Sousa Band Award to Eliza Paradis and the Louis Armstrong Jazz Award to Cedrick Loyola.

The second portion of the Gallery of the Arts was Wednesday, May 15 at Wiscasset Middle High School. The Art Show featured a variety of media types reflecting the choice-based spring semester art program and several middle school, student-chosen works.

A choral concert followed featuring the elementary, middle and high school choruses. Some of the highlights included “Supercalafragilisticexpialidocious” and “Stars and Stripes Forever” by the WES Chorus; “A Million Dreams” and “Shine on Me” by the Middle School Chorus; and “America: The New Colossus” and “It Don’t Mean a Thing If It Ain’t Got That Swing” performed by the High School Chorus. The concert ended with “I Am But a Small Voice” performed by all three ensembles. During this concert, certificates went to the three graduating seniors, Alecia Baker, Matthew Chapman and Nicholas Drogosek. The prestigious National Choral Awards went to Kaitlin Main and Dillon Leeman.

The music and art department faculty and students would like to thank the Wiscasset community for their continued support of music and art in our schools. Congratulations to all participating students!
