Wiscasset seeks bids on tax-acquired properties
Wiscasset selectmen are accepting bids on four tax-acquired properties. The board voted unanimously to sell the properties following an executive session Tuesday night, July 23.
According to the town office, three are mobile homes, one of which currently has a tenant and is being advertised as such. Their locations appear in a legal advertisement. The other property is 2.42 acres off Pooler Pit Road and has a small cabin.
In response to an email, Town Treasurer Vernice Boyce stated unpaid property taxes owed to the town from the properties total $10,185.
“The oldest one owes from 2006 to now,” she wrote.
Selectmen’s Chairman Judy Colby told the Wiscasset Newspaper, the board takes no pleasure in having to foreclose on a property for back taxes.
“As far as these properties are concerned, we’ve done everything we could but unfortunately haven’t been successful in collecting what property taxes are owed to the town,” explained Colby. They were among the oldest on the books, she said.
“We’ve got six or seven other property owners who are in arrears that we’ve given an Aug. 25 deadline to,” added Colby.
Sealed bids will be accepted at the town office until 3 p.m. Aug. 20, and must be accompanied by a deposit of 10 percent of the purchase price in the form of a bank cashier’s check. The deposit will be retained as credit towards the purchase. Bids must state, at a minimum, the amount of the offer, the property map and lot being bid on, and the bidder’s name, address, and telephone number(s).
