Wiscasset selectmen to meet with budget committee

Wiscasset selectmen will meet with the budget committee at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 14, to discuss a planned special town meeting.

No date was set for the special town meeting to cover approximately $11,502 in 2018-19 budget overdrafts. Selectmen have planned to hold the special town meeting rather than use $19,636 left in contingency.

On the recommendation of Town Manager John O’Connell, the board agreed to carry forward $40,000 in unexpended funds from the 2018-19 budget. The monies will be used to cover public works projects, minor renovations to the municipal building and firehouse, and tree removal and repairs at the waterfront pier and bathrooms. O’Connell also asked to carry forward the $19,636 balance left in the contingency account.

Also Tuesday, O’Connell said no major problems were found during a recent Property Hazard Survey, part of Maine Municipal Association’s Risk Assessment Report. The report recommended the town consider getting a structural analysis of its piers.
