Wiscasset Senior Center: Send in your news
Last week the sign out front was unfortunately not changed from the previous week so many thought we were going to have pot roast at the Wednesday public supper. We did have the baked fish that was listed on the published menu. However, this did point out the fact that people do read the sign and that advertising works.
Communication is important, and these days we are inundated with all kinds of information. Information is constantly bombarding each one of us. Some of it is important and some is so trivial that it is annoying. The digital age has increased the possible media types that are available to keep us up to date with the latest happenings.
With all that is happening and all the information available it would seem that it would always be possible to find something to talk about or write about. However last week when I went to write this column the only thing I had were the cribbage scores, and even for that there was nothing exceptional or noteworthy. I usually keep notes and I even have a log of ideas on my computer, but still I could not come up with anything. There just was not anything happening at the Senior Center.
Nothing happening is a terrible thing. Is there something that I’m missing? If you are involved with an event or activity or are interested in getting something going or know of something a member is doing, please let me know. It is probably news worth reporting.
The next big thing happening at the Senior Center is the Annual Membership Meeting and Breakfast which will be held on Saturday, June 28 starting at 8:30 a.m. This is open to all and is free to all current members. An invitation has been sent to all members and reservations are needed. The menu for the breakfast will be French Toast along with fruit, juice and coffee. Please make a reservation and please attend. Remember reservations cannot be made by calling the front desk. You must call Arlene or Cyndy as noted in your invitation.
The membership will be voting at the breakfast on a proposed By-Law change. Basically the number of trustees will be reduced from nine to seven. There will be a handout available at the Wednesday public supper with the details and I will have more info on the proposed changes in this column next week. Please attend the breakfast and let your voice be heard.
There will be a silent auction at the breakfast. All donations of items for the auction should be in by June 18 but if you do have something, speak to Arlene Polewarczyk or Cyndy Lewis as soon as possible. All items for the auction will be on display at the public supper on June 25.
The cribbage tournament winners on Tuesday, June 10 were Jane LaBreck first, Tiger Chubbuck and Larry Rines tied for second, Reid Hodgdon low score and Tiger Chubbuck had the high hand. The cribbage tournament winners on Thursday, June 12 were Luis Serrano first, Reid Hodgdon second, Stuart Wyman third, Jane LaBreck low score and Barbara Chubbuck, David Greenleaf and Doc Schilke tied for the high hand.
