Wiscasset Senior Center
Before dinner last Wednesday evening it was announced that Pat Dighton had died. Ellie Tracy said some nice things about her friend and fellow Senior Center member. Ellie related the time that she and Ted first started to come to the Wednesday night dinners and how Pat had invited them to sit at their table. Pat made them feel at home and accepted. Ellie told about other things that Pat had done to help others through the years. Nothing Ellie mentioned was unique or unusual but taken together they defined a unique individual. Pat will be missed.
There are two plaques at the end of the dining room with the names of all those members who have passed on. Pat’s name will be added. There are only a few names posted of members who had passed on before I came to the Senior Center. This Wednesday marks the 18th anniversary of Nancy and my move to Wiscasset. Over those years I have known or known of some very interesting individuals. Those plaques at the end of the dining room are rather small but the accomplishments of all those people listed are great.
Have you noticed the new arrangement of the lobby at the Community Center? What do you think of it? I think it works and is neat and inviting as you enter the building. It is the first major revision to that space since the building opened many years ago. If nothing else it does wake you up when you enter and that is good. If you have any thoughts about the new arrangements let the people at the front desk know.
Scams are prevalent and can get to our attention in many different ways. Email scams are old news but the scammers are always trying new ways to get you. Here is a reminder to never click on a link in an email. Always go to the site via your own saved bookmark or Google the site for a web address. I recently got an email supposedly from Time Warner Cable stating that they had updated their email software and needed me to click on the address listed and follow the directions. I went to my own bookmarked address to check it out and it was a scam. The email looked just like a notice from Time Warner. Remember that it is very easy to create an email that will have the proper logos and script of the official company but will be bogus. Many companies ask you to go paperless and then will let you know via email or text message when your bill is ready. Be safe and never take the easy way and click on the provided link to pay the bill. Always take the added step and go to your saved bookmark or call the company using a listed phone number.
