The Wiscasset School Committee on Tuesday night accepted the resignation of Special Education Director Susan Prince. She was hired in June 2018.

Superintendent of Schools Terry Wood said Prince resigned to become Assistant Special Education Director for the Windham School Department.

Wood also announced the resignation of school psychologist Cheryl Lierow.

The committee approved the hiring of two new teachers at Wiscasset Middle High School: Wyatt Ray who comes from the Jonesport-Beals school system will teach science; Ryan Berrill who comes from Oceanside High School in Rockland will teach science, technology, engineering and math (STEM).

Wood noted the school department is continuing to advertise for a speech language pathologist and an art teacher.

John Merry, director of maintenance and transportation, said improvements being made this summer include replacing ceiling tiles in the WMHS lobby and main hallway. Merry said older carpeting in the computer room and main office was being replaced with tile and wood laminate.

Athletic Director/Assistant WMHS Principal Warren Cossette said the Wolverine boys’ and girls’ soccer teams will both be competing at the class C level in the Mountain Valley Conference when school resumes. The girls’ team had been at D status the past two seasons. Cossette said the classification was based on enrollment which is reviewed every two years. Boys from Boothbay Region High School are again being invited to play on the Wolverine boys’ soccer team.

The committee re-elected Michael Dunn chairman and Jason Putnam vice chair. Members Desiree Bailey and Indrian Demers were absent. Dunn noted both had notified him in advance they would not be able to make the meeting.

The board entered into an executive session to discuss a personnel matter. No action was anticipated.
