Carmel, California’s Molly Martin and Gary Feldstein were seeing New England last week when their travels brought the engaged couple to Wiscasset and Red’s Eats. As he waited in line for the food stand’s famous, big lobster roll and one for her, she walked around the village. Wiscasset Newspaper met Martin near Ancient Cemetery at the corner of Lincoln and Federal streets.

The cemetery gave her a sense of how old the town is, she said. And what did she think of the town? “Oh, it’s really charming. And it’s a big foody place, I can see.” She had been to Treats. “And it was unbelievable. It’s really fun to go in. Even if you’re not eating, it’s just amazing!”

Martin added, “The shops are very lovely. Actually, I bought a few things,” including, at BIRCH, a house gift for someone they will be visiting. “(BIRCH) had quite a few perfect things I could have gotten.” She went with a cheese serving set with abalone.

Her fiancé is from New York and wanted to show her New England, Martin explained. “Boston ... and we’re staying in Portland. And then we’re off to Newport and then the Hampdens.” She said Feldstein was here a year ago when he was cycling from Canada to Key West.

Martin was looking forward to the lobster roll. “I said, ‘I don’t know how much I’m going to be able to eat,’” she said laughing.
